Accurate flow measurement
is a regulatory requirement

Groundwater sustainability regulations require agricultural well operators to report accurate extraction volumes on a regular basis. That accuracy depends on properly calibrated flowmeters: meters that are tested, certified, and documented to meet agency standards.

Farm Rite USA performs independent flowmeter calibration testing using transit-time ultrasonic measurement technology. This non-invasive method verifies the accuracy of your existing meter by comparing its output against a certified external reference, with no excavation, no pipe cutting, and no production downtime.

Our approach measures the actual velocity of water moving through your pipe using sound wave transit times, a method recognized for high accuracy across a wide range of pipe sizes, flow rates, and agricultural conditions.

Upon successful testing, we provide a signed calibration certificate accepted by Fox Canyon GMA, the Carpinteria GSA, and United Water Conservation District, along with a field report documenting your meter's performance against the measured flow.

How a calibration works

A typical calibration visit is completed in a few hours with no disruption to your irrigation system.

01
Site Review & Scheduling
We confirm your well location, existing meter type, pipe size, and agency reporting requirements before scheduling the visit.
02
Field Measurement
Our certified instrument is mounted externally on your existing pipe. No cutting, no bypass, no interruption to your water supply.
03
Data Collection & Analysis
Flow velocity and volume readings are recorded against your existing meter output. We document any variance and assess calibration status.
04
Certification & Reporting
You receive a signed calibration certificate and field report meeting agency submittal requirements for FCGMA, Carpinteria GSA, and United Water Conservation District.

Experience you can certify to

We're not a utility contractor who picked up a meter. We're an agricultural family business with four decades of hands-on experience in the water systems that feed Ventura County's crops.

40+ Years in Agricultural Water
We have a combined four plus decades managing water and production systems across Ventura County. We understand how your irrigation infrastructure works, not just how to clip a meter to it.
Approved by Regional Agencies
Our certification is accepted by Fox Canyon GMA, the Carpinteria GSA, and we are actively pursuing approval with United Water Conservation District. One contractor, one calibration test, your agency requirements satisfied.
No Downtime, No Disruption
Our non-invasive testing method mounts externally to your existing pipe. No excavation, no system shutdowns, no production interruption. Most calibrations are completed in a single visit.
Complete Documentation Provided
Every calibration includes a signed certificate and detailed field report in the format required for agency submittal, ready to file with no additional steps.

What your agency requires

California's Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) requires Groundwater Sustainability Agencies to track extraction volumes across all managed basins. As a well operator, you are required to report metered extraction data, and those meters must be verified accurate.

FCGMA
Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency
Governs groundwater extraction in the Oxnard Plain, Las Posas Valley, and Pleasant Valley basins. Requires certified flowmeter calibration testing by approved contractors.
Carpinteria GSA
Carpinteria Groundwater Sustainability Agency
Manages the Carpinteria Basin in Santa Barbara County. Requires documented calibration records for extraction monitoring and annual reporting compliance.
UWCD: In Progress
United Water Conservation District
Manages groundwater resources in the Santa Paula and Oxnard Basins. We are actively working toward contractor approval with UWCD to serve well operators in those basins.

If your existing meter has not been calibrated within your agency's required window, you may be out of compliance, even if the meter appears to be functioning normally. Meters can read inaccurately without any visible indication of a problem.

A calibration test doesn't require you to replace your meter. It verifies whether your meter is reporting within acceptable tolerance. If it isn't, we document the variance so you can address it before your next reporting deadline.

If you can provide the date of your last calibration when you reach out, we can help you determine where you stand relative to your agency's current requirements.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Questions about compliance windows, the testing process, or which agency we're approved with, all answered here. Don't see yours? Reach out directly.

What is flowmeter calibration and why is it required?

Flowmeter calibration is the process of verifying that your water meter accurately measures extraction volume by comparing it against a certified reference instrument. California's Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) requires agricultural well operators to report accurate extraction data to their local Groundwater Sustainability Agency. That data is only valid if the meter has been certified by an approved contractor.

How long does a flowmeter calibration take?

Most agricultural flowmeter calibrations are completed in a single visit of two to four hours. The non-invasive transit-time measurement method requires no pipe cutting, no system shutdown, and no production downtime. The test runs while your system continues normal operation.

Do I need to shut down my irrigation system during the test?

No. Farm Rite USA uses a transit-time ultrasonic measurement method that clamps onto the outside of your existing pipe. Your irrigation system remains fully operational throughout the entire calibration process.

What happens if my flowmeter fails calibration?

If your meter reads outside the acceptable tolerance range, we document the variance in our field report. You are not required to immediately replace the meter, but you will need to address the issue before your next agency reporting deadline. The field report gives you the documentation needed to take corrective action.

Which groundwater agencies accept Farm Rite USA calibration certificates?

Farm Rite USA is an approved calibration contractor with Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency (FCGMA) in Ventura County and the Carpinteria Groundwater Sustainability Agency in Santa Barbara County. We are actively pursuing contractor approval with United Water Conservation District (UWCD).

Does Farm Rite USA serve wells in both Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties?

Yes. Farm Rite USA provides flowmeter calibration services throughout Ventura County, including the Oxnard Plain, Las Posas Valley, and Pleasant Valley basins, and in Santa Barbara County, including the Carpinteria Basin.

What does a calibration certificate include?

Every calibration includes a signed certificate and a detailed field report documenting your meter's measured flow rate, the variance from your meter's reading, and the calibration status. The report is formatted to meet the submittal requirements of FCGMA and the Carpinteria GSA and is ready to file with your agency directly.
