Field Results by Crop

Results across the crops Richard has worked.

Numbers below reflect outcomes observed across working commercial operations over multiple seasons โ€” not projections.

Organic Strawberries

Oxnard Plain ยท Santa Maria Valley
20โ€“40%
N Reduction Documented

Strawberry ground is fumigated between seasons โ€” resetting soil biology to near zero each cycle. N-Fix re-establishes the N-fixing population fumigation removes. Aqua-10 at transplanting accelerates establishment. Consistent Brix improvements observed across organic programs running the full three-product protocol.

Hass Avocados

Ventura County ยท Active Trials 2026
20โ€“35%
N Reduction Projected

Avocado's root architecture โ€” shallow, no root hairs, entirely dependent on mycorrhizal networks and soil biology โ€” makes it uniquely responsive to biology programs. Active trials in Ventura County clay loam tracking biological establishment, tissue N levels, and June drop fruitlet counts in treated vs. untreated blocks.

Organic Vegetables

Ventura County ยท Santa Barbara County
20โ€“40%
N Reduction Documented

Fast-cycling vegetable programs on the Oxnard Plain respond well to biology programs introduced consistently across multiple plantings. Stand uniformity improvements and reduced inputs per cycle observed across lettuce, celery, broccoli, and other high-demand vegetable crops in commercial operations.

Valencia Oranges

Ventura County ยท Emerging Opportunity

Valencia returns in Ventura County are increasing. The crop presents a compelling case for a biology-first program โ€” Valencia trees simultaneously size the current crop and initiate the following season's flowers, one of the most demanding N management challenges in California citrus. Richard is actively developing program protocols for Valencia operations.

Common Questions

What growers ask โ€” and what the field data says.

Concern

"The per-unit cost is higher than my current fertilizer. How does this pencil out?"

Richard's Perspective

Compare total N input cost per acre per season โ€” not unit cost. A 20% reduction on 100 acres at $600/ton is $12,000โ€“$20,000 annually before counting yield changes. The biology program typically costs a fraction of that reduction. In Year 2 and beyond, as the reduction compounds and production increases, the cost differential becomes increasingly favorable.

Concern

"My program works. I've been farming this way for decades. Why change?"

Richard's Perspective

This is the same thing Richard thought before he used it on his own farm. The answer isn't to change the program โ€” it's to add to it. Start N-Fix and Aqua-10 alongside what you're already doing. Watch the crop. If there's no measurable difference in 90 days, the conversation ends there. That's how Richard started.

Concern

"Will yields drop while biology is getting established?"

Richard's Perspective

In Year 1, conventional N rates are not reduced. Biology is introduced on top of the existing program. The Year 1 design explicitly eliminates yield risk. Yield reduction during the transition has not been observed in the operations Richard has tracked โ€” and is structurally prevented by the conservative entry approach he uses with every new grower.

Concern

"Does soil biology actually work at commercial scale?"

Richard's Perspective

Richard's answer is simple: it worked on his own farm first. He didn't start selling these products from theory. He used them, saw the results in his own operation, and became a distributor. The 20โ€“50% nitrogen reduction ranges he discusses come from what he has observed directly โ€” on his farm and on the farms of the growers he has worked with since.

Key Principles

The agronomic foundation of this approach.

The biology-first fertility strategy is a systems-level approach grounded in soil science and documented across commercial operations. The application of these principles to California's crops and soil conditions is where 25 years of farming experience becomes relevant.

1

Biology is the most efficient nitrogen delivery system available

N-fixing bacteria produce organic nitrogen from atmospheric Nโ‚‚ โ€” free, inexhaustible, present above every field. Building that population is the most durable nitrogen strategy available.

2

Healthier plants produce more and cost less to maintain

A plant with an active root system and biologically supplied nutrition produces more โ€” and uses applied inputs more efficiently. Reducing conventional N while improving soil health often produces better results than increasing N in degraded soil.

3

The biological system compounds โ€” conventional inputs do not

Synthetic nitrogen has no residual value. A well-managed biological program builds organic matter, increases CEC, and sustains a reproducing microbial community. The return on the same investment increases each season.

4

The transition is managed conservatively with data โ€” no guesswork

N reductions are made incrementally, guided by tissue tests and crop performance. No rate change is made without documented evidence the biology is supplying the load.
